PARTICIPATION OF THE CHILDREN AS EQUALS IN THE MANAGEMENT OF THE SCHOOL’S EVERYDAY LIFE
School meetings, in which children and adults have an equal voice, are the foundation for the management of the school life. The participants open for discussion new rules, debate and compare different proposals, then vote to approve or reject them.
Children practice how to defend their opinions, to stand up for their ideas and learn to accept the existence of points of view which are different than their own. The goal of democratic education is for the children to gain the awareness and experience that their lives depend on their own decisions and actions. This is a way to become active citizens of their communities.
